The Pirn Winder      

The Pirn Winder was purchased with the Hattersley Loom from the London Cloth Company. The Pirn Winder does just what the name says - it winds the pirns. The shuttles hold the pirns as they go left and right between the shed of the warp, and this left and right motion is what makes up the weft, or the horizontal direction, of the fabric. The Pirn Winder is well over 70 years old and with a newly replaced motor is working as good as new!
