If you are like me, you freeze, bulge your eyes while twitching, and slowly exit the room when ever someone asks you for an artist statement. Recently when in a workshop, we were asked to create such a statement and the sarcastic side of me took over and I decided to side-step the exercise by write my statement in Haikus. While at the time I found this format humorous, throughout the process I found it helped me zero in on the most important parts of creating to me, thus helping me later write a more traditional artist statement for the real work.
While I may never use this artist statement professionally, the end result still felt authentic and genuine.
So, without further ado, I hope you enjoy my artist statement in Haikus.
